Winter Firelight

Idle Park Day

Joe Beale lives in South East London and enjoys working with fineline pen and watercolour pencil, as well as acrylic and pencil. Sometimes it is dark gothic stuff but there is usually a fair dose of humour and social comment in the illustrations. He has taken part in a number of exhibitions across London (most recently at the Greenwich Picturehouse) as well as one in Osaka, Japan, and looks forward to doing more in new locations.

His previous degree was in Social Psychology (and he continues to be interested in observing crowds and social structures for current illustrations), but illustration was always what he really wanted to do. Another strong interest is birds and other wildlife, especially in urban settings, and his artwork is strongly influenced by this. Non-profit work he has created has ranged from self-published comic zines to illustrated wildlife articles for a Brighton magazine and community centre newsletters, and other work has included images for ITV2 light entertainment shows. There are many illustration tasks that he would be very happy to face, some ideal examples include: short stories/fiction, fun tourist guides/maps, alternative children’s stories, nursery rhymes, ghost tales and hand made wildlife guides.
